The United States Supreme Court has just denied certiorari to appeals of the $13 million settlement in the Google Streetview litigation. This means the net settlement funds of approximately $9 million can now be distributed to nine separate organizations chosen by the Court to help protect consumer privacy interests. The settlement’s injunctive relief, requiring destruction of Streetview data taken by Google as well as various other measures to protect consumer privacy, can now be implemented. This is the end of litigation started by SRK in 2010 to protect consumers whose private information had been intercepted by Google Streetview vehicles, in violation of federal wiretapping law.
